Ok, so were officially on a collecting trip but since Joe does the majority of his collecting at night we typically have our days open to seeing the sites along the way. Day 1 we traveled from Logan to St.George stopping only to photograph some properties, visit Julie, and eat at El Azteca. The stop at El Azteca took a bit longer than expected as I locked the keys and K-So in the rental Mini Van. We spent the night in St.George at Seth's photographed some stuff for Pause, loaded Photoshop CS3 on the laptop and headed out. We were pretty pleased that the rental company sold the car we reserved so they upgraded us to a mini van, we had considered getting a mini van anyway so it will be nice to try one out. I will have to post our mini van review after the trip. So far the Mini has one really good feature, it's roomy (k-So's kennel is set up in there and we can still sleep in it), and one really bad feature, there is no clearance (Joe flew dukes of hazard style over a bump in Valley of the Gods and we almost lost a black cover thing on the front...we duck taped it on, that lasted for awhile, now it's in the back of the mini with all our stuff).
We spent the second night (and collected) in Valley of the Gods (we even got in a sunset drive through nearby Monument valley), and day three was spent at Montezuma creek. Montezuma Creek was fun to photograph, I spent a lot time in the kiva, the light was fun to practice with; I even got in a decent self-portrait. Ari has been traveling as good as can be expected, the day we were at Montezuma Creek the bumpy road kept interrupting his naps so he was a little ornery. Joe and I took turns hiking up to Native American sites while the other stayed in the van with the AC and Ari. Luckily Ari has been able to entertain himself for quite sometime by grabbing fists full of rocks and dirt and pouring them on his legs, he also had his first cow sighting; that was pretty exciting.
Last night we stayed in a hotel in Farmington New Mexico, Joe collected nearby I highly recommend La Quinta, they have a great continental Breakfast (were talking Belgium waffles), they have wireless (hence this posting) and they allow dogs...oh and there are some Halliburton trucks parked outside so it's pretty high class??
