Christmas Festivities

Ari on our "early" Christmas eve. He came up with lots of crazy photos for me to take of him, this one was my favorite.

Ari also took a lot of photos on Christmas Eve. Mostly close-up photos of his trucks, but he did manage to snap this photo of me and Joe.

Christmas morning #1. Ari's motorized train.

Gump (Ari's name for Joe parents) got a tractor for Christmas which of course was a hit with the grandchildren, and children. We even took a few laps out in the pasture pulling a sled...until it got stuck.

Christmas eve festivities.

Joe, Ari and his Great Grandma.

K-So's refuge...unless of course someone was playing the drums.

Joe wowing the crowd with his fancy German pancakes.

The aftermath.

I video chatted with my family as my parents unveiled our Christmas gift. We got some food storage stuff and a handy pandemic flu kit. Here is my brother modeling the pandemic flu wares.

This was the scene on our drive home. Blizzardy outside, crabby child inside. We went from Lehi to Logan in 4.5 hours traveling about 30 mph, got home around 12:30 am. Sardine Canyon was closed so we had to go through Tremonton. It was epic. Ari screamed most of the way.

Power Bill

These people are insanely festive, they have three storage sheds for their decorations, most of these things sang or moved. Not too shabby.

Ari's First Snowman

Today it finally got warm enough for the snow to get packable. Ari and I ventured out to make the first snowman of the season. We had a good time. After building the snowman we made snow angles, I taught Ari the finer points of snowball throwing, we went up and down the street filling his dump truck with snow, buried K-so, played with the chickens...oh no, I forgot the chicken were out...

Ari, Meet Santa

Ari has been somewhat intrigued with who this Santa guy is everyone's been talking/singing/reading about. We asked him if he wanted to see Santa, he said yes, so we did. Ari was not too impressed, as you can see.

Take That Crap Week!

Ari used his little potty twice this weekend. This it big. He's used the toilet before at my Moms but this was the first time at home. It totally trumped all the other bodily news we have had this week, so when Joe came up from downstairs this morning to tell me that when we flush the toilet it's coming up through the floor in the basement I was like, "eeeeehh, whatever".

Random Photo: Here's Ari looking cute this morning as he tries to wake up, after using the potty of course...

Crap Week Continues

We use cloth diapers, and we all know what's on dirty cloth diapers. Last night we were washing a load of said diapers. The washer filled, swirled, then drained out all over the basement floor. Yes, crap water.

Here are the boys working on the problem. Note Joe on cooler island and the dry clean only rug hanging on the line (the one K-So pooped on). I actually think this rug caused our washer problems...I think they mean it when they say dry clean only.

Howling at the Moon?

Last night Kim and I found out that coyotes really do howl at the moon; or were they howling at us, or where they feasting, or were they going to feast on us, or were they just being kids...and did I just structure that sentence properly?

We set off last night for an impromptu night hike up Green Canyon, the moon was bright, the snow was twinkling, the air was crisp and there was a pack of coyotes up the canyon making a pretty heavy racket. We stopped periodically to listen until eventually we couldn't hear them anymore, we figured they had moved on. We continued up the trail until it met with the second gate on the road, we got about 200 meters past that gate (at the top of the hill you fall down when you x-county ski) and they started to howl again, and they were REALLy close. When I say really close I mean REALLY close, just over the little hill close. We froze, it was a very eery sound to be so close. We immediately started looking for sticks to defend ourselves or for trees to climb but everything seemed buried in snow. We froze again as I PROMISE you the howling got closer and closer, I swear it did...right Kim...it did. The first thought that came to my mind was the little boy on the news that got attacked by a coyote last week. At the risk of embarrassing both Kim, Myself, and K-So (who was hiding behind my legs) I must admit, at that point...we ran! We kept running all the while turning to watch our backs for the crazy pack of coyotes to start nipping at our heals.

I'm tempted to go back up today, if my AM meeting is canceled I'm going back to that spot to see if they had a kill there or something...or was it the nearly full moon, do they really howl at full moons? I realize I'm really quite ignorant about such things. Were Kim and I REALLY in danger or just paranoid? Anyone know?

I get a little leery after the whole middle of nowhere with my son mountain lion scare, which is why I'm trying to convince Joe I need a little hand gun. Not because I don't respect the boundaries of wildlife or because I ever expect to use it; but if push came to shove and some crazy animal came after my son...

Craters on the Moon

Last Saturday we took a trip to Antelope Island. I'm ashamed to admit that neither Joe or I had ever been there. Since Saturday was looking to be the last "warm" day of the year (highs in the low 50's) we hit the road. As we were pulling out of the driveway we called Joes bro Ben and asked him if he wanted to join us, he did.

We found Ari the promised bison then decided to walk out on a quaint looking little Jetty near "the beach." We waited for the sun to sink then walked back along the shore in awe. It was an amazing sunset. It was the kind of evening where you just can't believe the rest of the Wasatch Front doesn't travel from near and far to watch the sun set over the Great Salt Lake. If I were a poet I would write about it, but I'm not.

Talk About a Crappy Week

Sunday. Ari woke up and announced that his “tummy hurts”. Good he could communicate why he was crabby, bad that his stomach hurt. Ari and I left church early due to said tummy hurting which turned out to be one of our better moves (although I think this story would be much more entertaining had we stayed). Upon arriving home I was in the kitchen doing who knows what then Ari came running in wining and again telling me his tuummmmmy huuurrt. I picked him up and seconds later received a lovely burst of puke all over my shoulder region. The puking continued with targets such as the table, the stool, the floor, my feet, a towel, etc; curdled milk everywhere. I changed our clothes and set Ari down on a chair in the kitchen while I cleaned. He must have been feeling better because he sang me the “vomit song” as I cleaned (Ari’s songs usually consist of two words such as “vomit song” “house song” k-so song” repeated over and over again to a tune of his choosing).

Monday. Thankfully I was gone working all day but I did manage to loose my cell phone.

Tuesday. Ari and I headed over to Magical Moon Toys to play with the huge train set they have out for all the kids that can’t even come close to affording one. Ari’s playing with the trains and I’m oooogling over this really cool Melissa and Doug wooden growth chart when all the sudden I smell my child from across the room. He runs over to show me a train and I’m overcome by the smell of poop, as is everyone else who happens to be on the second floor. I take Ari out to the car, lay him on the back seat, take off his diaper, pull the diaper wrong, poop falls out of the diaper, poop rolls down the back seat of the car, I have no wipes, I improvise, the car stinks.

We arrive home shortly after the poop in the car incident, I’m in the kitchen when Ari comes in yelling “poop, found poop, finger”. I look down to discover Ari had poop on his finger. I start in on a lecture about putting your hands in your diaper but upon closer inspection I see that his diaper is clean. I ask Ari to lead me to the poop. He grabs my hand and we take off for his bedroom. Sure enough it looks like there was some sort of poop murder in Ari’s room. Poop was splattered here, there and everywhere; K-So had obviously not been feeling well while we were away. I immediately start to clean it up as Ari sings the “poop song” from his bear chair. I’m crawling around cleaning when all the sudden I put my fist in a pile of poop that blended in perfectly with the dry clean only rug, I give K-So the look of death and she slinks out of the room. I know, why on earth do I have a dry clean only rug, I didn’t know that until today. To her credit I think it’s the first time K-So had pooped in the house. We’ve had plenty of vomit but this was the first poop incident, and yes, I forgot to let her out this morning before I left to run errands.

This week 4, Lindsey 0.

Us

I was taking some family/friends photos in St.G last week and in the process I had my sister snap one of my family. Gotta love K-So in this, she's dirty and looks like the unwilling child who's ticked off about having to be in a family photo.

Sharks and Fish

After picking Joe up from the airport in Vegas we decided to check out the Aquarium/Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay (as per Claud's suggestion). It was the coolest aquarium I have ever seen, not necessarily for it's sea life (although I'm sure that's cool too), I hardly noticed that I just really like the way it was designed. You start near the edge of the ocean and travel down down down until your at a sunken ship at the bottom of the ocean and the sea life was all around you, to the side, above and below. It was awesome.

OH, that last photo. Ya, that's my child on the ground pretending to be a fish.
